Tubal Blockage
TUBAL BLOCKAGE TREATMENT IN AYURVEDA
Infertility has become a rising concern among couples. A study shows that one in every six people of reproductive age faces infertility. The number of infertile people is in millions, and it has become quite common. This is due to a poor diet and bad lifestyle habits. There are several conditions that can cause infertility, and one of them is Tubal blockage. While tubal blockage can be seen in males too, the term specifically refers to the blockage of the fallopian tubes in females. It is a condition in which the fallopian tubes are blocked, and the transport of sperm or eggs is halted.
In Ayurveda, it is not referred to as an anatomical condition; rather, it is seen as Sanga Srotodushti (blocking of microchannels) in the Artavavaha Srotas (female reproductive system). Its diagnosis is somewhat easy, but its treatment needs expert supervision, and Gynocci offers you one of the best doctors who can guide you with medication and treatment procedures.
What is Tubal Blockage?
In the female reproductive system, there are fallopian tubes that play a very important role in conceiving. The fallopian tube is the place where sperm fertilize the egg . Tubal blockage is the complete or partial blocking of the fallopian tubes due to scar tissue, infections, and other conditions that prevent sperm from reaching the egg. It was found that tubal blockage is the main reason for infertility among one in every four people. In most cases, it shows no symptoms at all. In some, it can cause pain and irregular periods, etc.
According to Ayurveda, a blocked fallopian tube is mostly due to an imbalance in Vata and Kapha doshas in the body. Sanga Srotodushti is the obstruction, retention of the srotas or channels that hamper the flow of bodily fluids like nutrients, doshas, wastes, etc.
Causes of tubal blockage
There are various factors that can cause tubal blockage, such as previous surgeries and other health conditions.
- Endometriosis - It is the outgrowth of tissues, similar to that of the uterus lining, on or outside of the uterus, which can block the fallopian tubes.
- Disease and infections - Sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and Chlamydia can cause fallopian tube blockage and pelvic infection like Pelvic inflammatory disease, which is the most common cause of tubal blockage can block fallopian tubes.
- Previous surgeries - Surgeries can also be a reason behind blocked fallopian tubes, like abdominal surgery.
- Hydrosalpinx - It is the accumulation of fluid and swelling at the end of the fallopian tubes, which can cause fallopian tube blocking. This can cause infertility or even miscarriage.
Symptoms of Tubal blockage
Tubal blockages are, in most cases, asymptomatic depending on the cause. It can be indicated by not being able to conceive. If the cause is some diseases like endometriosis, it can show symptoms like pain in the pelvic area and irregular menstrual cycle. Some women may face symptoms like colored and sticky vaginal discharge and pain during sexual activity.
Diagnosis and treatment
In Ayurveda diagnosis of tubal blockage can be made by Nadi parikshan, along with some other parameters, like-
- Apana Vata imbalance
- Irregular menstruation
- Kapha accumulation
- Agnimandya (digestive fire imbalance), which causes Ama (accumulation of toxins)
In modern science, a series of tests can be done to confirm the blockage in the fallopian tubes. These include-
- Hysterosalpingography - It is a kind of X-ray procedure in which iodine is injected into the uterine cavity, and it flows down the tube and then into the pelvic cavity. This iodine is visualized in the X-ray to see if there is any blockage in the tubes.
- Laparoscopy - In this, a small cut is made in the abdomen, and a thin, long tube with a camera at the front (laparoscope) is inserted inside to visualize the blockage in the fallopian tube.
- Hysteroscopy - In this procedure, a thin tube is inserted into the uterus through the cervix to see the insides of the uterus.
- Ultrasound - Sometimes, ultrasound is used to identify the location of the tubal blockage.
After diagnosis, the treatment can be done both by Ayurveda and modern medicine. Both can very effectively unblock the tubes.

In Ayurveda, there are a number of therapies that can be used in the treatment of tubal blockage-
